SRFOL -- Music Programs

The Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library invites you to attend the "Pleasure of Your Company" series of music concerts, which are presented on selected Sundays at 2:30 pm in the Community Room at the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center. The concerts are free (with an occasional, rare exception) and are open to the public. A suggested donation of $5 would be gratefully accepted, but is not required. A complimentary reception in the Library courtyard will follow each concert, with an opportunity to meet the performers.

Concertgoers are welcome to park their cars in the parking lots adjacent to the library and are asked to enter the Community Room through the courtyard gate, which is adjacent to the main parking lot on the east side of the Library Center. Patrons are cautioned not to park along red-curbed areas; the police will issue tickets. Offsite, overflow parking is available on Meanley Drive, south of the Library. Just take the paved walkway to the Library Center. Please allow 10 minutes to walk from Meanley Drive to the Community Room. Click here for more information about parking.

Sponsorship Opportunities: The "Pleasure of Your Company" music series is supported by concertgoers just like you. Please consider becoming a patron at the $25, $50, $100, or $400 level. The $400 level allows you to sponsor a concert: You will be able to choose the month, have input regarding the performance, and receive star billing in the program. Sunday September 20 2:30 p.m.	The "Pleasure of Your Company" concert series opens its 2009-2010 season with the San Diego Chamber Music Society. They will present their newest chamber concert program featuring the Mozart Piano Quintet K. 452 and the Beethoven Piano Quintet Op. 16. The featured musicians for this hour-long program will be Pamela Monroe (piano), Ron Fox (oboe), Bob Barnhart (clarinet), Arnold Barron (bassoon), and Bruce Dorcy (horn).
Sunday October 18 2:30 p.m.	This concert features Christopher Acquavella, a classical mandolinist, in a program for mandolin and guitar called Historia del Mandolino. The program traces the history of the mandolin with music ranging from the baroque to the classical, romantic, and contemporary eras. Mandolin and guitar is a wonderful combination. Both have plucked strings, but the different sonorities blend together beautifully. Chris Acquavella has performed at major venues across Europe and America both in a solo and chamber music capacity. Until October 2006, Chris performed and recorded with the contemporary music ensemble Izbuha, including performances at Blackheath Halls and the Sunrise Music Festival in Glastonbury, England. Sunday November 15 2:30 p.m.	Lori Bell (flute) and Diane Snodgrass (piano) — Composer and Grammy Award Nominee Lori Bell will return to our music series with a program that features high craftsmanship and inspired improvisations rendered within a wonderful harmonic and melodic framework that is at once fulfilling to the musician's mind and music lover's heart. It is a quality which embodies the fundamental appeal of Ms. Bell's music and which conveys her special talents to a wider audience. Read more about Lori Bell's inspired work by clicking this link.
Sunday December 13 2:30 p.m.	Our holiday concert features Courtly Noyse, a group inspired by our forebears from the sixteenth century who enjoyed a Sunday afternoon with music, storytelling, and song. Recorders, viola da gamba, vielle, krummhorns, cornamuse, cornetti, bowed psaltery, mandolin, gemshorns, and rackett, are among the instruments the group will have in tow. The group may also cast their instruments aside at the drop of a (Tudor) hat, and burst into six-part vocal harmony. To learn more about these performers, visit the Courtly Noyse website.
